~I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.~
In this verse Ezekiel recorded what has become the heart cry of many of God’s people over the centuries. More than anything else, they want a heart that is tender, pliable, made of flesh rather than stone, a heart that loves and serves only God. What’s your heart like today? Is it divided in its loyalties, serving God but at times also serving self? Is your heart tender? Or is it hard, not easily moved? In your prayer time today, examine your heart for anything that keeps it from undivided love and loyalty to God. Ask God to make your soft and tender, easily stirred to change by the hand of His Spirit.
As I examine my heart today, Lord, reveal to me anything that gets in the way of being wholly devoted to You. It truly is my heart’s desire to give You my undivided love and loyalty. But my own desires and wishes and the sins of my life often get in the way. O Lord, just as the Israelites couldn’t change without a touch from You, I cannot become what I wish to be without Your divine help. I’m open and willing, Lord. Do whatever it takes—and I don’t pray that lightly—to make my heart a heart of flesh rather than stone. In the name of my King, Jesus, Amen.
