1 Samuel 15:22
~Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.~
These words of Samuel are worthy of another day of study and meditation. As you approach your time of quiet today, focus on the obedience quotient of your life. How in line are you—not only in actions but also in spirit—with the loving obedience God wants?
If you’re having trouble in an area or two, recognize that all the good intentions and willpower in the world won’t produce an obedient lifestyle more effectively than strengthening your connection to the power source, Christ. In Him you’ll find what you need to live a truly obedient life, one that looks obedient on the outside because of the heart obedience on the inside.
As you pray today, talk to God about your need for His help to live as He commands.
Thank You, Lord God, that I don’t have to rely on my own strength or abilities to follow You truly and faithful. Give me a clear vision of Your will and way for my life, then give me the strength—and the burning desire—to follow it. Help me to remember that no good deed can ever take the place of an obedient heart. I love You, Lord. Amen.
