Jeremiah 2:2 for September 24th
"Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:
" ‘I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the desert,
through a land not sown.”
A husband who forgets his wife’s birthday or wedding anniversary could be headed for serious trouble when he comes how that day. Without memory, relationships would be nearly impossible. The sharing of special memories is a kind of glue that bonds relationships together.
Shared memories are also part of our relationship with the Lord. In this passage God shows that has fond memories of his people. He remembers their devotion and love. But he also remembers their rebellion and asks them to give a reason for their unfaithfulness.
We can be thankful that God carries special memories of us and even more thankful that he has a divine ability to forget. When we turn away from sin and wrongdoing and receive cleansing through Jesus, he is able to forget that those wrong behaviors and attitudes ever took place.
What good things will God remember about you? Are there things you need to repent of so that they can be erased from his memory?
