~26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them
There is no second-class citizens in God’s family. Men and women are equal beings, both capable of the same intimacy with God. From the beginning, God’s fullest intention was to create male and female so that both reflected his image.
Sadly, many cultures still hold to ideas of female inferiority. At an international conference, a visitor asked a local pastor if he had children. The pastor lowered his head and replied, “I’m sorry but I only have one daughter. I’m sure our next child will be a boy!” the visitor pulled a photo of his wife and three daughters from his pocket. “I’m sorry, too,” he said. “the picture is not very clear, but what you see is the image of God.”
God, who has always lived in intimate relationship as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, created both male and female for relationship too. Our most important relationship is with him. Because we are little reflections of his great being, we can truly know God, love him and be loved by him. He also created us so that we can love one another, living in the kind of unity that is a reflection of his glory.
Do you see god reflected in the characteristics of both men and women? In what way?
