~Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.~
Few of us ever a receive a compliment for being forgetful. In an age when computers can instantly recall billions of bytes of information, it’s not in vogue to be forgetful. Yet one of the most wonderful attributes of God is that he “will remember [our] sins no more” [Jeremiah 31:34]. We may be ashamed of things from our past and afraid that God could never love and accept us because of them. Through repentance our sin is forgiven and forgotten.
Even wonderful memories can keep us from letting go of the past. But the Lord commands us to keep moving forward. The more weighed down we are by the past, the more difficult it is to move into the freedom and victory that he has for us.
Are you carrying hurt from past experiences? Are you hanging on to something good that is keeping you from the new thing God has for you? Ask him to give you a fresh start.
