~”…Look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”~
The young man in the green sweater listened eagerly as Loren and Darlene Cunningham told their audience how God was calling young people as a mighty force for world missions. He felt drawn to their organization, Youth With A Mission, but asked the Lord to confirm what he was sensing in his spirit. “If you want me to become involved, have one of them approach me personally.” At that moment, both Loren and Darlene sensed God saying, “Talk to the young man in the green sweater after the service.” Young Don Stephens went on to become director of YWAM Mercy Ships, a ministry that has helped millions of people worldwide.
Because God speaks to us in many ways, we need to ask him for a sign about every decision. But there are times when the Lord will confirm his guidance through a specific sign. In Judges 6:36-40, we read such a story about Gideon’s fleece. We must not dictate to God how he will speak to us. If we limit him in any way, we may miss the guidance he’s giving.
Have you asked God for a sign about some decision you’ve had to make? What was the result?
