Psalm 147:5 for August 25, 2009
~Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.~
Just a few weeks after receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, Elizabeth was struggling with one of the most important decisions of her life. She had excelled in her university studies and now had an opportunity to take up a lecturing post. It was a dream come true for her, and yet she felt a deep uneasiness. She felt God was saying, “Are you prepared to sacrifice this job for me? Will you do whatever I as of you?”
When we make pans for ourselves, we do so with limited knowledge of ourselves, our circumstances and the future. On the other hand, when God makes plans for us, he has unlimited knowledge and is guided by a perfect love for each of us.
It wasn’t easy, but Elizabeth was able to pray, “Lord, my life is yours. Show me what you want me to do, and I’ll obey.” After that prayer, she was filled with a gentle peace. She realized that God did want her to accept the lecturing post. She had passed an important test, acknowledging God, with his unlimited knowledge, power and love, is best placed to direct her life.
Would you be able to say yes to God in this kind of situation? What might hold you back?
