23 Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the Lord.
“No, I am far away at the same time.
24 Can anyone hide from me in a secret place?
Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?”
says the Lord.
God is aware of everything that happens, and his presence is everywhere in the universe. This is a comforting thought for those who seek to love and serve God, because we know that we are never alone. When Jesus sent out his disciples [Matthew 10], he explained that God had numbered the hairs on their heads [10:30] and that even when a sparrow fell to the ground God knew about it [10:29]. He was reassuring them that even when things were tough and they felt alone, God was still watching them and looking after them.
This is not such reassuring thought, however, for those who want to live selfishly.
Although Charles had been raised in a Christian home, he left and plunged headlong into a life of drinking, drugs, and sexual immorality. But he couldn’t get away from his guilty conscience. In the end Charles slid into deep depression. At his lowest point he realized the only way out was to surrender to God Through faith in Jesus. God, as always, was right there with him, ready to forgive. And he lovingly restored Charles to the kind of life he was created for.
Think about how lived your life today or last week. Are you glad that God is aware of everything you think and say or do?
