but let him who boasts boast about this:
that he understands and knows me,
that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,"
declares the LORD
Of all the things we could boast about—our intellect, wealth, good looks, power or achievements—the only thing that carries weight with God is our relationship with him. The apostle Paul sais that his highest goal was “that I may gain Christ” [Philippians 3:8]. God is a God who wants to be known by us, and the wonderful thing is that every one of us can know him.
He declares in Proverbs 8:17, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” Seeking God is the key to knowing him. And when we do seek him, we won’t be disappointed. We will find a loving God of faultless character. We will know a God who delights in kindness, justice and faithfulness.
To know him is to love and feed on his written Word, the Bible. To know him is to pursue him in friendship, as Moses did in the Tent of Meeting [see Exodus 33:7-11]. And to know him is to worship him, as David did in the caves and courts of Israel [see Psalm 52; 65; 84].
What are you doing to get to know God? Pursue him as you would a treasured friend.
