1 Corinthians 9:24-25
~Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.~
God wants us to pursue him wholeheartedly like top athletes in training. Far too many Christians act like spectators in the race of life. God wants us to run and to win. Without discipline and determination in training, we will fail to demonstrate our faith to a world that does not acknowledge God.
But we need God’s empowering to run the race. Consistent time in prayer and reading God’s Word will strengthen us to obey and imitate Jesus in every circumstance. Note the example of young Christian named Mike, who worked in a small office firm that did not keep a close watch on employee’s working hours. Many co-workers abused this privilege by coming in late and leaving early. Mike always worked a full day, even when others urged him to “lighten up.” Over time, his daily disciplines and personal integrity influenced many of the others to change their attitudes and behaviors.
What could you do to train more diligently to face the challenge of your life?
